Artist Barbara Mendes was referred to Saban Community Clinic when the optometrist at her local LensCrafters discovered she had Glaucoma. At her first Clinic appointment, the doctor conducted a full examination and diagnosed her as pre-diabetic. She immediately cut out sugar and changed her diet. “They saved my life from the beginning. I dodged the bullet of diabetes,” says Barbara. Last year Barbara developed a hernia in her abdomen. With a referral from her doctor she recently had surgery to have it removed. Today, at 71, Barbara feels healthier and is more active than she was a few years ago. Her glaucoma is under control and she has been seeing a doctor and a dentist at the Clinic regularly and feels so grateful. “I have never received care with such dignity and kindness, at all levels. I feel honored to receive care at the Clinic,” says Barbara.
